JUNE 25, 2017 PASTORAL VISITATION

His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas will be coming to celebrate Hierarchical Divine Liturgy Sunday, June 25th.

HOW WE CAN HELP REFUGEES IN GREECE

With all of the turmoil going on in today's world, the refugee crisis in Greece has sadly been overlooked by a large majority of the media.  Over 62,000 people fleeing violence in their home country are now trapped in Greece.  This is not a refugee problem, this is not a Greek problem, this is a world humanitarian problem.  In a country whose population hovers around 11 million with an unemployment rate of almost 23% you can imagine the stress this has placed on the residents and the refugees alike.  Many will ask, "what can I do from over here," or, "how can I help this problem?"  We are in luck as a family from our local parish will be visiting Greece in a few weeks and would like to deliver a few suitcases of much needed items as a gesture of love and support for those in need.  Below you will find a list of items that are much needed.  We will be collecting items through July 2nd.  Please contact Alex Karabinis at (937) 570-0297 if you have any questions.

Baby diapers of all sizes

Feeding bottles

Other items in need are:

 t-shirts (men, boy, girl)

JULY CCM: SHOES 4 THE SHOELESS

Hopefully, none of us know the suffering of wearing shoes that are too small or not having shoes at all. July’s CCM provides an opportunity to donate new gym shoes and socks to the community organization Shoes 4 the Shoeless. They have donated over 50,000 shoes and socks to children throughout Montgomery County. Place your donation of new gym shoes and socks in the bin located in the community center lobby. Monetary donations are welcome too. Make a difference by helping young children and teens walk in comfort with a smile on their face.

NEW CURRICULUM – THE ORTHODOX FAITH

Our Church Outreach Committee met Wednesday, May 31st. It was suggested that we offer the new curriculum for the High School students in Our Lady’s Catechism School to all the adult members of our parish. The series is The Orthodox Faith written by Protopresbyter Thomas Hopko, former dean of St. Vladimir’s Seminary. The four volume series covers 1) Doctrine and Scripture 2) Worship 3) Church History 4) Spirituality. The cost for all four books is only $40.00 and they must be purchased together. It is the hope of the Church Outreach Committee that our parish will be able to form an adult Catechism School sometime in the future. Please call Carol if you would like a copy by June 9th. In the memo line of your checks put The Orthodox Faith Books.

JOY COURTYARD AND MEMORIAL GARDEN UPDATE

What is going on with the courtyard project? Why has there been little construction progress? The contractor found that once the work began, a piece of the existing plan was not going to work. After several weeks of exhausting all measures, it was decided that we needed to alter that piece of the plan. The plan has been approved. The contractor will move forward as soon as they can, but we do not expect to be completed by the festival. The festival committee is aware of this, and has made alternate plans for outdoor seating. On behalf of the committee, I wanted to inform you of the delay. We want to make sure things are done the right way and we look forward to dedicating the Joy Courtyard and Memorial Garden as soon as we can. Thank you, Deb Pulos

PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR STEWARDSHIP GIVING OVER THE SUMMER

We are grateful to all of our parishioners who have made their 2017 Stewardship Commitment to the church and have either fulfilled that commitment or are current in their giving. As we approach the summer months, there is a tendency for Stewardship contributions to decrease. This can place the church in a difficult position as regular expenses, as well as expenses in preparation for the Greek Festival, require payment. The parish, just like our homes, must meet its budget monthly. Our parish family needs everyone to contribute on a regular and timely basis. You may make your contribution by check (mail or bring to church) or credit card online at www.daytonannunciation.org. We appreciate your support of the ministries of the parish and the gifts you offer to the Glory of God!

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28TH FEAST OF ST'S. PETER AND PAUL

Dayton, Ohio 45440. Please RSVP to Carol if you will be going by June 13th in order for our hosts to best prepare for us. You are welcomed to bring a non-fasting covered dish.

PARISH DIRECTORY UPDATE

Over the next couple weeks we will be updating the parish directory with contact information and photos.  Starting March 12th, Alex Karabinis will be at coffee hour with a spreadsheet for all parish families to verify and/or update their information.  If you wish to have your family's photo taken to be placed along side your information, we will have a camera as well or you can submit a photo via email to the below address.  If you wish to just update your information but do not wish to update it at coffee hour, feel free to email AlexFKarabinis@gmail.com.  Thank you.
