As we begin this moving and soul-stirring time in our lives, let us focus ever more clearly upon our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Holy Week is not merely a time to recall sacred history, but an opportunity to experience anew the saving Passion and triumphant Resurrection of Jesus Christ. We have the possibility to place ourselves alongside Jesus through the various Divine Services of Holy Week. We stand in awe as He raises His dear friend Lazarus, we praise and glorify His triumphal entry into Jerusalem with palm branches and leaves in our hands. We move with Him through the Holy City as he confronts the Pharisees and scribes, cleansing the House of God. We receive the Sacrament of Holy Unction as a sign of reconciliation and healing of our souls and bodies. We are present at the Mystical Supper, where the Holy Eucharist is given to the Apostles, and ultimately to the Faithful. We walk with Him to the Garden of Gethsemane and witness His agony and willful submission to the arresting soldiers. We follow Him as He goes before the Sanhedrin and Pilate, seeing the trial and sentence of death. We are eyewitnesses to His Crucifixion on Golgotha. Finally, we rise early and venture to the Sepulcher Tomb with the Myrrh-bearing women who learn of His Glorious Resurrection.

In order to experience the fullness of this most sacred period, we must participate in the Divine Services, immersing ourselves in worship of our loving and compassionate God. We must draw near to Christ and walk with Him. We must not abandon our Lord at this hour, as did His disciples. We must cling to Him, putting to death our own sins and transgressions, that we may experience the unspeakable joy brought about by the New Life bestowed in His Resurrection!
