The Annunciation Greek School“Annunciation Greek School” is the name of our Greek language and culture education program for children ages six to fourteen.

Our belief is that the Greek language is a great asset to our students’ overall education as well as an inseparable element of their Greek Orthodox education. Our mission is to inspire in our students the pride in their Hellenic heritage and the appreciation of the uniqueness and wealth of their ancestor’s language and culture.

The school was established in 1950, as a summer program, with teachers who were hired from Greece to educate the children of our Greek parishioners. It now operates from the end of September through the end of May, with classes currently meeting on Monday evenings.

All students admitted to Greek School must be at least six years old and must have completed kindergarten (in American school) before they enroll in Level I.
There are seven levels of learning. Goals include developing vocabulary and confidence in speaking and writing skills, as well as exposing the students to various topics in Greek culture.

Finally Greek school is involved in the following events every year:

The OXI DAY program (October)
This is an informal program presented by the older level students. We celebrate the defiance and victory of the Greek people and troops in their fight against the Italians in 1940.

The Christmas program
Presented by the Catechism school. Greek school students sing traditional Greek Christmas carols.

The March 25th, 1821 or Greek Independence Day Program. Presented and prepared by the Greek School students, staff and parents. The students perform plays, skits and poems, while dressed in Greek national costumes. The students who belong to dance groups also perform traditional Greek dances on the day of the celebration.
